भारत की सांस्कृतिक परंपराओं की विरासत यहाँ के सभी प्रदेशों की आंचलिक लोककथाओं में सुरक्षित हैं। ये कथाएँ परंपराओं के मूर्त, अमूर्त अवशेष के रूप में संस्कृति की शिक्षा देती रही हैं। ये धार्मिक समन्वय और अखंड भारत के स्वरूप का अध्ययन भी प्रस्तुत करती हैं। इस पुस्तक में हिंदी की पोषक उत्तर प्रदेश की जनपदीय लोकभाषाओं की कथाएँ हैं। उत्तर प्रदेश की मुख्य लोकभाषाएँ या हिंदी की बोलियाँ हैं— अवधी, आदिवासी, कौरवी, ब्रज, बुंदेली, भोजपुरी आदि। वही कथाएँ प्रायः सभी लोकभाषाओं में पाठ भेद के साथ मिलती हैं। उत्तर प्रदेश की सभी बोलियों, उपभाषाओं का लोककथा साहित्य रोचक, प्रेरक और समृद्ध है। यह दावा नहीं किया जा सकता कि कौन सी कथा किस बोली-क्षेत्र की है। सब में एक ही मूल भाव, लोकमंगल उपस्थित है। कथा के अंत में कहा जाता है कि ‘सबके अच्छे दिन बहुरे...’अर्थात् किसी के साथ बुरा न हो। संकलन में जो लोककथाएँ हैं, उनमें धार्मिक-पौराणिक कथाएँ, हास्य कथाएँ, नीति संबंधी कथाएँ, प्रकृति से जुड़ी कथाएँ तो हैं ही, व्रत-पर्व, त्योहारों से जुड़ी ऐसी कथाएँ भी हैं, जिनमें देवी-देवताओं के कथानक, उनकी महिमा और कृपा, व्रत के फल, विधि-विधान तथा व्रत-पर्वों के महत्त्व का वर्णन है। उत्तर प्रदेश की लोक संस्कृति, परंपराओं और मान्यताओं का दिग्दर्शन करवाती पठनीय लोककथाओं का संकलन।

Since time immemorial, folk tales have been a source of education to the society gripping the people in awe. The cultural traditions of India are preserved in the regional folklore. When speaking of the state of Uttar Pradesh, its cultural identity lies in the sense of belonging, the sense of renunciation, the sense of tolerance, the sense of altruism. Hence, the folklore literature of the state is very rich and interesting. ‘Uttar Pradesh Ki Lokkathayen’ displays different types of folk tales from across the state. These stories are captivating and are based on various categories including tales on supernatural, kings and priests, animal tales, humour, etc. Reading these, we time travel back to our ancient precious heritage and learn more about our culture. This is an amusing work with great literature and recommended for all readers, young and old.
