Повесть «Двойник» во многом связана с художественным миром и поэтикой гоголевских петербургских повестей. Можно сказать, что фантастический и непостижимый Петербург романов Достоевского берет начало в этой повести. Не случайно ведь повесть имеет подзаголовок «Петербургская поэма».
